Pauli Murray Center

I visited Pauli Murray's childhood home in Durham, North Carolina for the 1st Anniversary of the Museum Opening.

We were welcomed into the home of Pauli's grandparents by her niece, Rosita Stevens-Holsey and her grandniece, Nia Aiken, who graciously shared stories of their beloved aunt. I spoke about my own discovery of Pauli Murray from my good friend Bartheleme Rousseau whom
I met during a summer work tour with Operation Crossroads in Ghana. Pauli taught Constitutional Law
at the University of Accra in Ghana in 1960.

I presented Pauli Murray's Revolutionary Life at the pre-opening of the Museum
after a major refurbishment.

Audrey Hinton, president of the AACWMM, invited me to a book fair held at the pre-opening festivities. Pauli Murray's grandfather, Robert Fitzgerald, served in multiple positions in the Union Army and Navy, sustaining a war injury that led to his blindness in later life.

I shared a table with Lavonda Broadnax, who curated a website with the Library of Congress collecting writings of African American women during the Civil War.
